Cape Town 2006 - September 2006
We decided to take a little break and spend a week in Cape Town between 17 and 25 September 2006.
This was basically to attend Ray and Sarah's wedding, in Stellenbosch on the 23rd, so decided to make a holiday of it and show Daniel and Kate what Cape town is all about.
We stayed with Pam and Craig, Janine's aunt and uncle, in Welgelegen.
We decided not to try and do everything but to have a more relaxed time and really enjoy what we were doing.
On Sunday we drove town with a stop for lunch in Sedgefield. When we arrived at Sir Lowry's pass we were fortunate enough to see a paraglider launching with another riding the ridge.
Monday was Aquarium day, so after a bruch at the Mug and Bean it was off to the aquarium, where the kids had a great time. Seeing all those fish created a sushi craving which we took care of at The Cape Town Fish Market. We still cannot believe how Daniel loves sushi!
On Wednesday we drove out to Vredenburg to visit Grant and Lois, Janine's great aunt and uncle. We went via the West Coast National Park which was really nice. Lots of tortoises, flowers, sea vistas and great views of Langebaan. We also saw a pack of bat eared foxes. After our vists to Grant & Lois we stopped in at Flick to say hi, George was at the air show in Cape Town.
Thursday was up Table Mountain for a picnic and a little hike before we took a drive to Hout Bay and then up Chapman's Peak Drive to Simonstown, where we visited the African Penguins on Boulders Beach, before heading back to Pam & Craig's.
Friday we paid a visit to the Museum and saw lots of interesting stuff before heading into the Gardens to feed the squirels and birds.
Saturday morning was time for some last minute shopping before heading off to Stellenbosch for the wedding. The kids were also invited (what were they thinking?) so it was pretty interesting until Kate went to sleep after much protesting and the dancing started. Daniel could not wait to dance and spent the rest of the night dancing. It was a really great time.
For our last day we went to Spier for a picnic with Richard and Nadia to see their new son George. It was a great day outdoors with a wonderful picnic. A great way to end a memorable week.
